For this month's angel, Rosemary writes:

Carved in pristine white marble by Joseph Bosio in 1816, an angel offers succor to the doomed Louis XVI. This funereal monument was created for the Chapelle Expiatoire, dedicated to the memory of the execution of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. The king, adorned in all his regalia, is represented in an ecstatic pose, while being comforted and sustained by a graceful angel, who points towards heaven.

Discretely placed in a small leafy square during the Restoration monarchy which followed the Revolution, the chapel is located near the former cemetery of the Madeleine Church where the remains of the king and the queen were found.
