France's president, Emmanuel Macron, recently proclaimed that he wants the art that was pillaged from Africa and is now housed in French museums to be returned to the continent within five years.  His subsequent call for the immediate return of 26 such items at the Musée du quai Branly to Benin has French intellectuals and museum administrators in turmoil.
