For this month's angel, Rosemary writes:

On a quiet street in the 16th arrondissement stands a beautiful modern church dedicated to the Assumption of Our Lady. This church has a particularly interesting history: a missionary order of priests set up quarters on this site in 1882 and soon to be joined by another order until both are expelled under the 1901 Law of Associations which suppressed nearly all the religious orders and confiscated their property. In 1928 the church was re-opened and was enlarged. Above the entrance, on a gold ground, a plaster panel features Our Lady of the Assumption garbed in a pink gown and blue cape and flanked by four angels. Created in pure Art Deco style, the sweet-faced angels with almond-shaped eyes bear flat, waffle-like wings and float on curly clouds. The artist expresses the story of the Assumption of Mary with her angels in an unexpected but spiritual way.
